CHAMPIONS
OF CAYO FOOTBALL COACHES ASSOCIATION TOURNAMENT
The Cayo Coaches Association youth tournament was
a success. Four teams participated in the U16 division and 3 in
the U13 division. Our U16 team had a very good competition, but
ended in third place.
Our U13 team made it to the finals against Benque's
Football Academy. After loosing our previous game against them 4-3
the Benquenos thought they had the championship in their hands.
However, our boys were determined to proove otherwise. Turn-out
for workouts was execellent. Our game plan was practiced over and
over again.
Then, the day finally arrived. The pitch was not
what we had anticipated for it had rained in the days prior. However,
this didn't stop our boys from executing our game plan and in the
7th minute or so, Nadir Guzman received a pass from Leonel, beat
two defenders and placed a shot to the far post of the Benque keeper
who tried but was unable to intercept. Just before the half ended,
Nadir beat the defenders again and crossed the ball to a lonely
Elito Constancia who wasted no time to defeat the Benque's goalie.
Finally, in the 20th minute of the second half, after a shot from
Leonel that the keeper couldn't hold, Nadir again blasted a shot
on an already demoralized Benque keeper who saw it go into his net
yet again. The game ended 3-0 and we were crowned champions of the
U13 division.
Note: Nadir Guzman and Elito Constancia are two
of our promising football stars. Both are 10 years old, and are
participating in the U13 division of players born 90 and 91. Nadir
also participated in several U15 games, where he tallied 7 goals.
